Title : Philanthropy Manager

Reports to: National Fundraising Lead

Contract type: Full-time

Hours: 35 hours per week

Location: Based in Dublin, with opportunities for part-time remote working*

* Note:  There will be a mix of office and remote based working for this role over the coming months as we return to more regular working arrangements following temporary arrangements that were in place due to Covid 19 restrictions.

What you’ll do

As Philanthropy Manager, you will have an opportunity to shape the Society’s philanthropic strategy, supporting the Irish Cancer Society to become a leader in identifying, cultivating and stewarding major donors. Working with senior leaders in the Irish Cancer Society, you will be supported to see your vision come to light. You will be part of the development of best in class philanthropic and major donor engagement and play a role in delivering sustainable fundraising.

You will in turn help support people whose lives have been affected by cancer across Ireland.

As Philanthropy Manager your responsibilities will be:

Strategy development and implementation

  • Collaborate with the National Fundraising Lead to develop and manage the philanthropic strategy to identify, cultivate, and engage High Net Worth individuals and foundations.
  • Implement the strategy to increase the current pool of Major Donors and philanthropic funding, maximising the database to identify new prospects and convert to active donors.

Management, planning and financial goal setting

  • Manage a portfolio of current and new Major Donors and prospects, developing a bespoke strategy for each individual.
  • Create and deliver cultivation, solicitation and stewardship plans that reflect these strategies.
  • Develop short- and long-term strategies for prospects, including annual giving goals and goals for discrete campaigns.
  • Hold responsibility for the delivery of ambitious Major Gift and Philanthropic fundraising targets

Relationship building and stakeholder management

  • Create relationships with grant giving and philanthropic organisations nationally and internationally and co-ordinate all grant applications.
  • Network with potential Major Donors and generate a Major Gift pipeline.

Stewardship

  • Offer the highest level of stewardship to existing donors through appropriately targeted individual events and stewardship throughout the year.

Collaboration

  • Work with the internal teams and contribute to a year-round programme of events and communications to cultivate new prospects.

Who you are

  • The successful candidate will be an outstanding and self–motivated individual with a proven track record of soliciting major individual gifts.

Your qualifications and experience

  • You will typically have 3 years of experience in Philanthropy/Major Giving.  The Society measures experience based on the quality of the experience obtained, rather than in time passed and welcomes applicants at all stages of their career.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, able to develop relationships to the highest professional level.
  • Excellent communication skills, able to adapt complex ideas and convey them to prospects, donors and colleagues.
  • Confidence in face-to-face negotiations.
  • Experience of hosting and organising cultivation events.
  • Experience of financial accountability.
  • Experience of using a CRM database.
