Charity of the Year 2021

This prestigious award goes to the charity organisation that has had a truly exceptional year, whose recent achievements for their beneficiaries have attracted admiration from the sector and has led the way in regard to transparency and accountability.

Barretstown

Every charity like every business was affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. Some waited for something to happen, the best charities showed their metal and made changes happen. The winner of this year’s Charity of the Year, Barretstown, showed great perseverance, resilience, vision, and ingenuity to support and help the people they serve rebuild their lives in challenging circumstances. There is an old saying “Build it and they will come”, but during Covid-19 the recipients of this charity were not able to come so Barretstown had to go to them VIRTUALLY. They had to show the same duty of care, empathy, sense of fun and support in innovative new ways. This they achieved in a remarkably quick and professional manner. But it didn’t stop there. Barretstown established new programmes, increased its media footprint, reduced its carbon footprint, established new virtual fundraising channels while ensuring employee wellbeing and safety. When written in Chinese, the words crisis is composed of two characters, one represents danger and the other opportunity. In the crisis that was and is Covid-19, this charity has dealt with the danger and created opportunities.

Congratulations to the 2021 finalists
