This award recognises the work of the board of trustees that have shown excellence in governance, accountability, and leadership for the organisation they have been appointed to steward.
The winner of Charity Board of the Year, BelongTo Youth Services, has been selected not just for doing the things expected of it, such as setting the strategic direction of the organization and ensuring high standards of transparency, diversity, and accountability, but also for doing some things that Boards don’t always do.
These include:
…having a comprehensive and formal induction programme for new Board members;
…setting a reserves target for the organisation and achieving it two years ahead of schedule;
…reviewing annually the effectiveness of the Board, and the mix of skills on the Board to aid succession planning.
