10 Charities to receive €5,000 from Ecclesiastical Insurance

Benefact Group have announced the winning charities who will receive €5,000 as part of the Benefact Group's 2023 Movement for Good Awards.

Ecclesiastical Insurance Ireland and its parent company, the Benefact Group, have announced the ten winning health and wellbeing charities who will each receive €5,000 as part of the Benefact Group’s 2023 Movement for Good Awards.

Little Blue Heroes Foundation in Ireland is among the causes to receive the awards, alongside other charities in England and Wales.

Little Blue Heroes Foundation provides relief and assistance to families who have children with serious illnesses. The organisation also fosters positive community engagement with An Garda Síochána as they grant the wish of children who want to become honorary Gardaí. The foundation also delivers Sarah’s Christmas gift to families, in memory of Sarah Robinson, who supported families with children with serious illnesses and passed away in 2019.

More than 120,000 people gave their time and nominated the health and wellbeing causes they care most about to receive one of the ten special grants that were available. The winning charities were then chosen at random from over 6,000 charities that were nominated.

Annmarie Keane, Administration and Family Liaison Officer at Little Blue Heroes Foundation, said: “We are absolutely over the moon with this award - it means a lot to us, and we would like to thank our supporters for voting for us.

One of our little blue heroes passed away in 2019 from childhood cancer, and every Christmas in her name we give each of our families under the Honorary Garda programme a beautiful gold box containing vouchers for food, fuel and toys. We thank Ecclesiastical and the Movement for Good Awards because the €5,000 will go a long way to help with our Christmas programme this year.”

In 2023, more than €1million will be gifted to charities up and down Ireland and the UK, following €4million being given to good causes since the initiative started in 2019.

This year, 420 charities will be awarded €1,000 donations, while 40 good causes will be awarded €5,000 sums via special grants throughout the year, aimed at helping charities in specific sectors. Winners will be drawn at random and the more times a charity is nominated the more chance it has of being selected.  Further gifts totalling €500,000 will also be donated in larger amounts later this year.

David Lane, Managing Director for Ecclesiastical Insurance Ireland, said: “We would like to thank every single person who took the time to nominate a health charity as part of our Movement for Good Awards. And a special congratulations to the Irish winner, Little Blue Heroes Foundation.

This special draw was designed to support charities whose core charitable purpose is the advancement of health or the saving of lives. But there are still chances to nominate your favourite charity as the main draw is still open. Visit www.movementforgood.com and cast your vote.”
