On behalf of our members, we wrote to Minister Joseph O'Brien following the recent budget announcement about the Temporary Business Energy Support Scheme. The TBESS may apply to your charity if you carry out activities that are deemed to be a trade – See Section 2.1 in the Guide to see if you part-qualify.
In response, Minister O’Brien acknowledged the challenges facing our sector in meeting the high cost of energy and the commitment to helping charities to meet these costs.
The Department of Rural & Community Development (DRCD) was allocated €10m in Budget 2023 to put a specific support scheme in place for the sector. The Department is developing a framework which will be announced shortly to ensure timely support to charities and ensure that the vital services they provide, and for which demand is increasing, can continue.
Additional funding has also been allocated to the Department of Tourism, Sports, Arts, Gaeltacht and the Media to address the challenges faced by not-for-profit and voluntary organisations in the Arts, Sports and Gaeltacht sectors.
We would encourage members to engage with their Local Authority and Local Development Boards so that they are aware of all funding opportunities as they arise and we will notify you about any new support initiatives.
