Role Overview

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Development Manager is a central role within the TU Dublin Foundation. We are seeking a passionate, highly motivated results-driven Development Manager to join the team, focused on fundraising for our first capital campaign ‘Transforming Tomorrow’ and managing existing donors relationships.  This includes, but is not limited to, major gift fundraising, proposal writing, presentations, events management and donor cultivation.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Delivering on priority fundraising projects as part of TU Dublin’s €30 million Transforming Tomorrow capital campaign

  • Leveraging internal stakeholders including the TU Dublin Foundation Board, academic faculty, staff and alumni to maximise philanthropic opportunities

  • Preparing proposals to individuals, corporations, foundations/private grant-making agencies

  • Identifying potential new relationships and developing compelling proposals and presentations

  • Ongoing donor management and stewardship

  • Collaborating with Foundation staff in completing gift arrangements

  • Overseeing, managing and/or planning events

  • Producing marketing materials and campaign literature

  • Maintaining records in the company’s CRM system (Raisers Edge), updating social media platforms and the company website

  • Representing the Foundation at both external events and internal meetings e.g. advisory committees and executive meetings.

  • Other duties as deemed appropriate by the Executive Director

Person Specification

The ideal candidate will demonstrate the appropriate mix of knowledge, experience, skills, talent and abilities as outlined below:


  • Hold a third level qualification in a relevant discipline (essential)

  • Experience of working in higher education/not- for- profit- sector is welcome

  • Fundraising experience would be a distinct advantage (desirable)

  • Experience in the corporate sector is welcome


  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint with good keyboard skills

  • General understanding of the structure of TU Dublin and Higher Education in general


  • Minimum 3 years appropriate experience in sales, fundraising, business development, corporate relations, account management and/or event management (essential)

  • Experience in working to and achieving targets (desirable)

  • Evidence of strong customer service and of interacting with diverse stakeholders e.g. academic staff, donors, alumni, students, etc. (essential)

  • Experience in the use of databases and/or Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems, such as Raiser’s Edge (desirable)

  • Experience in maintaining accounts and financial records (desirable)

  • Experience of working as a member of a team, providing leadership, support, and assistance where needed

Skills, Talents & Abilities

  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills with ability to engage at senior management and board level

  • Accomplished relationship builder who is confident presenting and pitching to a variety of audiences

  • Flexibility: demonstrable experience of structuring workload and comfortably manage the multiple dimensions of the role

  • Diligent, highly organised with close attention to detail

  • Driven, highly motivated, results focused and passionate about higher education

  • An aptitude for problem solving and multi-tasking and be able to demonstrate a genuine commitment to providing high standards in customer service

  • Strong analytical, planning and budgeting skills with a focus on return on investment

  • Positive ‘can do’ attitude and collaborative working style

  • Available to work unsocial hours as required

This is a full-time, 5-year contract position, subject to satisfactory service during the probationary period.

This post is currently located in TU Dublin – City Campus, Grangegorman, Dublin 7.

It is anticipated that interviews for this post will take place on the 14 October 2019. The interview assessment will be 60 minutes in length and will include a presentation of 5 minutes duration.  The topic of this presentation will be as follows: “Activities and impact of a charity of your choice to a prospective donor”.
