Barnardos fundraising department is responsible for raising voluntary income to support Barnardos services in Ireland in the following ways:

What will the Donor Marketing Lead do?

The Donor Marketing Lead plays a lead role in the development and implementation of the strategic fundraising plan to raise voluntary income to support Barnardos’ work with children and families. The role has a particular focus on new donor acquisition with existing donor development and communications and is target driven.You will take ownership and work with the National Fundraising Manager to work towards increasing funds from all individual fundraising areas to agreed targets by 2021 (in line with our new fundraising strategy).

This post focuses on managing Barnardos’ direct marketing fundraising appeals and database activities and enhancing the donor communications experience with Barnardos. This role also has a strong focus on implementing a new, effective donor care strategy and ensuring impeccable donor care to all Barnardos supporters.

The Donor Marketing Lead plays a lead role in the development and implementation of the strategic fundraising plan to raise voluntary income to support Barnardos’ work with children and families. You will take ownership and work with the National Fundraising Manager to work towards increasing funds from all individual fundraising areas to agreed targets by 2021 (in line with our new fundraising strategy).

 Core Job Requirements

  • To plan, develop, project-manage and implement direct marketing campaigns and appeals to the donor database in consultation with the National Fundraising Manager. This will include all direct mail, digital, cold mailings, inserts & any integrated campaigns Barnardos develops as part of its strategic goals.

  • Work with the National Fundraising Manager to focus on growth within the Donor Marketing department, increasing voluntary income streams through all areas, with a particular focus on new acquisition leads and targeted marketing and fundraising appeals.

  • To develop database reports to track and monitor key performance metrics including response rates, average gift, etc.

  • Evaluate campaigns and provision of Raisers Edge (CRM) reports to National Fundraising Manager.

  • Work collaboratively with the Data Executive to conduct analysis and segmentation of data for each campaign/appeal to deliver optimum results.

  • Implementation of communications strategy to develop donors on the donor journey and ensuring that the Donor Membership club ‘Barnardos Friendly Giants’ is managed by the supporter care assistant effectively to ensure high retention rates.

  • Working with Donor Marketing Executive to maximise the donor lifecycle through targeted and effective donor care.

  • Manage the Telemarketing Executive to ensure all outbound telemarketing activity is planned and executed in the most effective manner.

  • Manage the day to day activity of the Donor Marketing Team including direct line management of the; Donor Marketing Executive, Telemarketing Executive, Donor Care Assistant and the Data Executive. This includes annual appraisals and any other HR responsibilities.

  • Manage relationships with external agencies to ensure best practice donor communications, and to ensure delivery of the agreed work on time and within budget.

  • Liaise with Barnardos’ Children’s Services, Advocacy and Communication Teams to acquire information and content for use in donor communication materials.

  • Work with the Communication Team and the external Digital Consultant (when required) to ensure the Digital Marketing strategy is rolled out effectively for fundraising.

  • Deliver activities on time, to target and within budget.

  • Research and stay connected with activity and changes within the charity sector and circulate relevant information.

  • Ensure the information held by the Fundraising Department is compliant with Data Protection legislation and guidance. Keep abreast of developments and make recommendations for improvements. Liaise with the organisation’s Data Protection Executive in respect of this. Conduct relevant audits for fundraising and checks as required.

  • Assist the Donor Care Assistant to manage complex donor queries and responses and provide administration support in busy times as required.

Experience

  • 3 years’ experience in a fundraising/marketing/customer service environment.

  • Experience co-ordinating direct marketing appeals.

  • Experience of leading and managing a team.

  • Excellent computer skills and working experience in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and database packages (Raisers Edge preferable but not essential).

Qualifications

  • Relevant third level qualification, e.g. marketing, desirable but not essential or relevant experience gained either in the corporate or voluntary sector.

The postholder is initially assigned to work in the National Office, Dublin 8 but may be required in the future to work in other project(s) in the Dublin area in line with organisational needs.
