Community & Events Executive - Galway Simon Community

Reports to: Fundraising Manager

Job Location: 18 Tuam Road Centre, Galway

Contract Details: Specific Purpose Contract (maternity cover)

Job Purpose:
Working to the Galway Simon Fundraising Strategy and as a member of the Fundraising Team, the Community Partnerships Fundraiser will achieve targets by developing, maintaining and optimising partnerships with groups, organisations, educational institutions, etc in Galway Mayo and Roscommon. S/he will contribute to the development of, and implement, relevant elements of Galway Simon Community’s Fundraising Strategy. S/he will manage activities and outputs and maintain existing processes and structures to deliver optimal Community partnerships.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the ongoing development of, and implement, existing Community partnerships, strategy and operational plan
  • Carry out activities to an agreed timetable, within an agreed budget in line with the Fundraising operational plan
  • Undertake continuous assessment and evaluation of activities and, in consultation with the Fundraising Manager, implement change as required

Financial Targets

  • Achieve annual Community Fundraising income targets
  • Ensure consistent and adequate growth in Community Fundraising income levels
  • Ensure targets are achieved and activities are delivered within agreed expenditure budgets


  • Maintain, support and maximise existing fundraising activities
  • Identify and deliver opportunities for Galway Simon to benefit from externally organised events and activities
  • Identify and develop beneficial relationships with appropriate contacts to increase levels of support for, and fundraising activities in aid of, Galway Simon Community
  • Develop relationships with groups, clubs, societies, educational institutions and other appropriate organisations to convert their support into fundraising activities for the benefit of Galway Simon


  • In consultation with the Marketing Communications Officer maintain Community Fundraising-related social media and other online presence
  • Working closely with the Marketing Communications Officer optimise press coverage for Community Fundraising activity in line with Galway Simon’s overall media / communications strategy
  • Liaise with the Fundraising Team and Marketing Communications Officer to
    ensure effective and co-ordinated acknowledgment and publicity after
    fundraising events and activities have taken place
  • Present a professional image of Galway Simon Community to external
    groups and contacts
  • Give presentations as required to local groups, clubs, societies etc on
    Galway Simon Community’s work as required and in line with Fundraising
  • Proactively identify and utilise appropriate opportunities to raise the profile
    of Galway Simon Community’s work


  • Ensure Galway Simon’s requirements in terms of Community Fundraising
    Volunteer recruitment and retention are achieved in a sustainable manner
    Maintain, support and maximise existing relationships with volunteers and
  • Identify opportunities for the office-based volunteer team to support
    Community Fundraising activities and support them to carry out delegated
  • Identify opportunities for volunteers and supporters to get involved in
    additional Community Fundraising activities and the wider activities of the
    Fundraising function and support them to do so
  • Liaise with members of the Fundraising team to co-ordinate volunteer


  • Ensure in-house and externally organised Fundraising events and activities
    are organised and delivered in an effective, appropriate and timely fashion
  • Communicate and report upon all contacts and activities to the Fundraising
    Manager in an appropriate and timely manner
  • Maintain a high level of knowledge and awareness of developments and
    activities of Galway Simon Community


  • Carry out administration necessary for the successful functioning of the
  • Provide regular reports on progress to Fundraising Manager
  • Provide evaluation and analysis reports on Community Partnerships,
    internally and externally organised fundraising events, activities and
    campaigns including recommendations for future activities
  • Ensure appropriate administrative support is provided to fundraising groups
    and for fundraising events and activities
  • Maintain accurate records of donations, contacts, correspondence and
    activities on Raisers Edge in a timely and appropriate manner
  • Ensure records and other documentation is held in compliance with Galway
    Simon policies and with regulatory requirements.

Team Work

  • Work as part of the Galway Simon Fundraising Team
  • Actively participate in and contribute to Fundraising team meetings
  • Where required liaise with other Simon Communities and other Galway
    Simon projects / departments to develop an accurate, effective and
    appropriate fundraising message


  • Flexibility as necessary to ensure the requirements and objectives of the
    post and Fundraising Function are achieved
  • This role will require flexible working hours and will necessitate working
    evenings, weekends and occasional early mornings
