Julie is an Honours Arts graduate of University College Cork, where she studied English Literature and Psychology. Having worked in Film and TV production for over five years, Julie began her charity career in 2001 with one of Ireland’s biggest charities, Concern, where she worked as the Schools Speaker throughout the country. She was promoted to run the Concern flagship nationwide campaign, The FAST.
Julie moved on to the role of Community Fundraiser with The Irish Cancer Society coordinating Daffodil Day, The Pink Ribbon Campaign, the Cork Mini-Marathon and multiple community events (some of which were among the biggest in the country) in the Munster area.
In 2009 Julie began work at the Mercy Hospital Foundation, which was starting to find a place among charities in Munster. She started as the Community Fundraiser, then became the Head of Fundraising & Communications and took the position of Interim CEO in 2021. Julie led the fundraising team and managed multiple income streams, including direct debit giving, direct mail, legacy, major donors, radio appeals, community fundraising, corporate donations, grants, tax back, events, Facebook challenges and many more. During Julie’s time at the Mercy Hospital Foundation, the charity became one of the best-known brands in Ireland.
Julie’s years of experience with some of Ireland’s highest-profile charities enables her to hold a vast array of non-profit knowledge as well as practical skills to help others in their philanthropic endeavours.
A full review of all your fundraising activities is always a great place to examine what is yielding results and what is costing your charity time and money. I can work with your team to review your current activities in order to analyse just how effective they truly are.
Strategic planning will future-proof your charity for years to come. Fundraising plans create a structure and a framework for the whole team to adhere to. I can work with your team to construct strategy documents for board approval and day-to-day documents for your team to follow in order to deliver on the plans in a practical sense. Brainstorming and testing new fundraising ideas and streams is also essential in creating new income streams, and I can facilitate or lead such sessions for you.
Creating a beautiful donor journey is essential in order to foster loyalty and commitment to your charity. From outward communications on your social media to one-to-one communications with your major donors, I can help ensure your team are on brand and message to maximise donations and donor care every step of the way.
Coaching and mentoring fundraising team members is an area of work that I hold dear. Teaching and training up-and-coming fundraisers or working with senior fundraisers as ‘a sounding board’ is something that can yield incredible results in terms of fundraising, staff retention, and skill development. I would welcome the opportunity to work with your team members to develop their skills and abilities for your charity.
‘Grateful Patient Fundraising’ has taken the US by storm, but how do we apply the concept here in Ireland? ‘Grateful Patient’ fundraising is here to stay, so make sure your healthcare charity doesn’t miss this new trend in giving. I can work with your team to devise a ‘Grateful Patient’ strategy and implementation plan that weaves in Irish ethical concerns and works within our culture.
